Saving electricity is reducing your footprint on the planet. As we continue working from homes, here is a list of a few quick tips to be good to the environment while ensuring the power bill is a little lighter on your pocket too:

Unplug appliances:

Unplugging, especially when devices are not in use, is a great way to save energy and minimize the risk of shock or fire. Do not leave chargers turned on even after removing the device – a very common cause of up to 20% power wastage.

Switch off:

Switch off your workstation instead of putting it on sleep/ standby when leaving it idle for a long time. The screen saver is best done away with; replaced with the power saver mode.

Smart devices:

Buy timers and sensors that auto switch off your devices. Especially useful for insect repellents, outdoor lights, night lights and more.

Laundry smart:

Being at home makes it doubly tempting to do smaller loads of laundry, but it is more energy efficient to do a full load every time. Bonus Green points if you ditch the dryer for air & sun-drying instead.

The chai coffee breaks:

Heat only as much brew as you can drink at one go, a coffee/ tea maker that is filled to capacity and boils excess water for every break is a waste of power.

Devices efficiency:

Buy high star rated appliances and devices that are less power consuming. Good quality wires, switches and MCBs also ensure less power wastage with reduced consumption or leakages. Replace faulty gadgets and broken connections immediately.

Temperature perfect:

Set optimum temperatures to your air conditioners and water heater for maximum efficiency. Ensure these appliances are switched on only when necessary and not kept on automode to maintain temperatures round the clock. Over-heating and over-cooling can be a huge cause of waste. Be temperature wise, 26-27 degrees of room temperature and a lukewarm bath of 25 to 30 degrees is considered good for health and this hearth.

Go solar:

Solar mobile chargers, outdoor lighting and other smaller devices are excellent purchases to reduce electricity consumption. And letting the sun light up your workspace is good for the bill as well as your dil. It is undoubtedly happier to work in natural light.
